Statement

Life is a temporary event. As the quality of our lives is based on the quality of our slipping moments, Spontaneous Art aims to bring strangers together for moments of authentic social connectivity and flashes of creativity. We infiltrate public spaces in costume and create entertaining spectacles that alter routine daily life.  Bystanders become part of the act and spectators jump in to help shape the direction of our skits.  Spontaneous Art’s performances investigate and depend on the inventiveness of strangers to reach their full potential.  After participating with us we hope people are quicker to take social risks, question their self-imposed rules, permit themselves more freedoms and live out their days with more spontaneity.

Play with Spontaneous Art

Spontaneous Art is always looking for experienced volunteers to play critical roles in our projects and adventures.  As a collaborative entity, we utilize many different skill sets to produce our performances.  We are interested in connecting to people with the following skillsets: performance art, photography, videography, web design, graphic design, sculpture, engineering, technology-based art, textile and sewing, illustration, improv comedy, make-up artistry, app creation, dance and promotion.  If you have experience in any of the positions listed above, or think you might be able to contribute in another way, please contact us with a letter of interest and resume at contact@spontaneous art.org.  We will be happy to take a look and call on you if there is a good fit for a future project.  Although we are based out of Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, Michigan, we often travel to perform in places like Chicago, Brooklyn, DC and Pittsburgh- so don’t let a distance keep you from applying.  Thank you!

Bring us to you

Is there an amazing festival, museum or event in your town that is perfect for us?  If so, please let us know so we can reach out and apply to them.  If we get in we will let you know so we can meet you!
